Contour Wedding Bands

Between people waking up to the fact that anything goes for a wedding band, and covid's imposed work from home time, we have been blessed with a streak of custom wedding ring projects in the genre of contour bands. Our sentimental customers have unearthed long over-looked odds and ends of family jewelry while cleaning out their closets. And these have provided the gemstones to create their dream wedding bands. Why a contour band?  I personally liken contour bands to a shawl, a wrap, a hug, around the engagement ring. Which is an even more potent symbol when reusing family stones.  This first...

The Great Swirl Ring Masterpiece

The Great Swirl Ring Masterpiece

This engagement ring project was brought to us by a couple who had all of their own family diamonds.  The woman wanted a very bold, very wide, magical ring. She brought us samples of her style and a drawing of what she wanted, which was an 18mm across on top white gold ring with yellow gold leaves, swirls, bezels and 1 rim.  We had never tackled such a behemoth 2 tone creation, so we tackled it several different ways to handle our naïveté. We sell jewelry, so what follows is a brainstorm of how to approach the day, both traditionally and non-traditionally. Some men, and especially women, appreciate adornments for the body. Anything from these natural pink Andean opal silver earrings just $45, to this stunning white gold pink...

So I gave him stats, I offered him a vague idea of style, and hoped he'd be ok to proceed alone. Nope. He continued to anxiously wring his hands and ask me details, the same I'd...

Handmade Multi Layered Platinum Sapphire Ring Project

We are sometimes blessed to be approached by adventurous customers who want to break out of the standard / normal / usual jewelry designs and venture into sculptural territory. This project is just such a case. Our customer wanted a big blue stone. We brainstormed gemstones, colors and shapes. We finally sourced the big blue, a deeper rich blue sapphire, natural except for the usual heating performed on corundum, emerald cut. Next step was designing the ring. She wanted a many banded, multi layered, asymmetrical ring, created in platinum. The biggest hurdle here was not so much making the ring,...
